Drought situation in the country has severely affected certain parts where residents have been forced to feed wild animals.

Photos seen by this reporter show residents of Mandera County feeding wild animals that have been hard hit by the calamity

The animals pictured were baboons, Warthogs and a Waterbuck being taken care in homes they had stumbled upon while looking for food.

In one of the photos, a man is seen providing water to a thirsty Warthog.

In another, a troop of baboons are feeding on food left by the locals while a different one shows a man attending to a Waterbuck that has been ravaged with hunger.

The government on Saturday revealed that 2.6 million Kenyans are facing starvation.

Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna pointed out that the 623,000 of the affected are children and 69,000 are pregnant and lactating mothers, who are at risk of malnutrition as the disaster rises.

He further pointed out that 8 regions within the nation had been drastically affected by the drought.

“Eight out of the 23 counties are severely affected by drought and require urgent enhanced relief food assistance.

“They include Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, Tharaka-Nithi, Isiolo, Embu and Kitui,” remarked Oguna.

Oguna highlighted that the government needed Ksh3.7 billion to address the matter between the month of September to December.
