Kwale County Distributes Bursaries to Needy Students

Kwale Deputy Governor Fatuma Achani presided over the issuance of bursary cheques worth Sh 6 million to university and secondary school students from Mackinnon Road and Samburu/Chengoni wards, in Kinango Sub County.

Addressing those who attended the two separate events held at the respective ward offices, the Deputy Governor assured residents of Kwale that the county government is committed to transforming the lives of the people through education.

Achani noted that for the county to realize any meaningful development, the quality of education must be enhanced adding that residents need to pay attention to the education of their children.

She stated that through the ‘Elimu ni Sasa’ initiative, the county government of Kwale is currently sponsoring over 4,000 students in national schools and over 2,800 in various universities in the country.

“Under the leadership of Governor Salim Mvurya we have so far constructed 400 modern Early Childhood Development Education Centres (ECDEs) across the county, and we recently initiated the construction of a Teacher’s Training College in Kinango,” added Achani.

At Samburu/Chengoni ward office, the Deputy Governor who was accompanied by several senior county officials also led a fundraiser for a primary school Head Teacher who is to undergo medical treatment in India.

Over Sh 600, 000 was raised in the fundraising event.
