Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has broken his silence concerning the ongoing Punguza Mizigo debate.

Speaking over the weekend, Chama Cha Mashinani CCM party leader poked holes into Ekuru Aukot’s Punguza Mizigo, terming it ill-timed and ill-motivated.

Ruto observed that the bill, which seeks to do away with women representative positions should not be passed by county MCAs adding that women also have the capabilities to lead in Kenya.

The former county boss observed the fact that the proposals by the Party Leader Ekuru Aukot are rooting for the lowering of representation at the grassroots level makes the entire bill not worth debating upon.

While acknowledging that Aukot had great ideas, Ruto revealed that he instead did a shallow job when it came to the drafting of the proposals ahead of their implementation.

“I don’t agree with the Punguza Mzigo proposal because it will lower representation of the people in the grassroots level,” he stated

“It is important for the government to have an opposition leader in parliament. There is no way Kenyan will claim to be democratic if the leaders of the opposition hold no position in parliament,” added Ruto

Ruto instead confirmed his support for President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga’s Building Bridges Initiative BBI reaffirming that the bill will bring a lot of good changes to the country.

His sentiments were echoed by Chepalungu MP Gideon Koskei who observed that the fruits of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga had already been seen.

Koskei urged Kenyans to support the two leaders advising them to shun away from divisive politics.
