The Government of Kenya has expressed its anger on the poor performance of the Kenya National Women Volleyball team at the ongoing 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup in Japan.

The Malkia Strikers have not registered a single win or worst still winning a single set, from seven matches so far, and Permanent Secretary for Sports Ambassador Kirimi Kaberia can’t take it anymore.

He says the Kenyan Queens must now win at least a match before getting back to the country. He also questions how Kenya can be the African Champions and fail to show any efforts at the global stage.

“It’s sad watching our women volleyballers losing every match in Japan after doing so well in Rabat, enough is enough, we must also win there,” says Sports PS Kaberia.

PS Kaberia says the government will be forced to have a serious conversation with the top officials of Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) in a bid to find a lasting solution.

This statement comes a few days after it emerged that the volleyballers had not received their allowances for the competition from the government. The ladies, who were financially crippled at the moment, had even started contemplating a go slow. Opera News has however established that the monies were later wired to the players, and that they had no reason for poor performance going forward.

Malkia Strikers have fallen to the USA, the Netherlands, Brazil, Serbia, Dominican Republic and Argentina, in a tournament which has been running since September 14. The final match of the 2019 edition will be played on Sunday, September 29.
