On Saturday, September 21, while featuring for his Slovakian outfit FK Pohronie, Mainge played against MSK Zilina in the Slovakian Premier League otherwise known as Slovak Super Liga, and he can’t keep calm about it. Of course, it is a major step for a 19-year old Kenyan footballer.

“Glad to have finally made my league debut against the country’s giants MSK Zilina who have participated in the UEFA Champions League Five times. Not the results we wanted but one that left me with a lot of lessons. It was a dream realized. The hard work continues,” Mainge posted on his social media account.

His side, placed on the 11th spot of the 12-team league table, fell 2-1 to Zilina, who are currently leading on the ladder with 23 points from nine matches. Filip Kasa and Robert Bozenik scored for the winners while Michal Klec grabbed the consolation for FK Pohronie.

Mainge joined FK Pohronie in July 2019 after a short stint with Ingwe, a club he joined with no Kenyan Premier League experience having only played for Kakamega High School. He has also represented Kenya with national U23 team when he played against Sudan in Olympic qualifiers.

It will only be fascinating to see how the wonderkid advances his footballing skills and how much he can make Kenya proud going forward.
