Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has pledged to build a new school for Ng’ando residents after a tragedy occurred at Precious Talent Academy leaving seven dead and 64 injured.
Speaking to the press at the school Magoha first rubbished earlier reports indicating that there was no public school in the area.
The CS said the nearest public institution was only 2 kilometres away though in a different ward.
He, however, pledged to ensure that a new school is constructed in the area.
“If there is no public school, the government will work towards establishing one. I have told you that the nearest primary school is 2 kilometres away.
The issue is not a ward but proximity to where residents live. But if there is no school in Ng’ando the government will make sure we provide one in three to four months,” said Magoha.
The CS also said that he had no one to blame for the tragedy but promised to take immediate action after the investigation team submit their report.
“We have set multi-agency team comprising of the county government officials, local leaders, the interior ministry, health ministry, ministry of education and Redcross.
The team will conduct a thorough investigation that will be submitted to me for immediate action,” he added.
Magoha confirmed that the school was dully registered with an enrolment of 800 students.
He revealed that more than 600 students had gone through safety checks to ascertain their wellness.
Besides, the CS assured Kenyans that students all over the country are safe and that the incident should not be used to insinuate that school-going children are at risk.
“The children f Kenya are safe in schools. The tragic incident should not be used to instil fears in our public, private primary and secondary schools,” he said.
The CS also gave the remaining structures at the school a clean bill of health saying they are fit for students to continue learning.
He, however, closed the school for four days to allow for reorganization.
The school will resume its activities on Monday.
