Gor Mahia’s clash with KCB is undoubtedly the match of the weekend and for more reasons than one. For starters, 3 points for any team has the potential to send them top of the Kenya Premier Table. Gor Mahia are 7th on the log with 3 points while KCB sits pretty in second with 4 points, one behind surprise leaders Mathare United.
Secondly, Gor Mahia will be welcoming three of their former stars in Enock Agwanda, Ezekiel Odera, and Pascal Ogweno. The most important visitor, however, has to be KCB head coach Zedekiah Otieno. Zico won the league with K’Ogallo last season while serving as the assistant manager to Hassan Oktay.
It will be his first match on the touchline having missed the win over Sony Sugar as well as the draw with Kisumu All-Stars last weekend. He was in Germany for a month-long career advancement course and also missed Harambee Stars draw with Uganda. Zico doubles up as Francis Kimanzi’s assistant manager for the national team.
Gor Mahia’s match with Chemelil Sugar initially scheduled for last Thursday was postponed which means that the defending champions have had a full week to prepare for Sunday’s clash. Steven Pollack’s side has played just one league match this season which was a 5-2 win over Tusker FC.
Gor Mahia against KCB rarely disappoints with the last encounter between the two is a 6 goal thriller that ended in a 3-3 draw in May. KCB recruited smartly in the market and signed 2010 Kenya Premier League scorer Steven Waruru alongside Harambee Stars international midfielder Dennis Odhiambo.
The match starts at 4.15 PM and will be staged at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
