Avire had sneaked into Egypt just after Harambee Stars’ exit from AFCON 2019 finals with former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Robert Muthomi being involved in the ‘illegal’ deal. Muthomi would later be suspended to pave way for investigations into the issue.
About two months later, Tanta SC-the club to which Avire ‘controversially’ joined, has written to Sofapaka with a view of breaking the impasse, once and for all.
In the letter, seen by Opera News, the Egyptian club says they are ready to agree with Sofapaka, in whichever best way, so as to see the Avire deal go through.
“Now, we see that there is a dispute between you and the aforementioned player on the contract termination. Please be advised that the player (John Avire) provided us with a notice of contract termination with Just Cause as per Article 14 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players and a reply from your side confirming that you failed to fulfil your financial obligations towards the player for three successive months due to financial challenges.
“As you stated your readiness to negotiate, how can we find a solution to the current situation from your point of view?” the letter stated in parts.
