Boost as KRU Seals Sponsorship Deal with Tusker

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has, on Friday, announced a new sponsorship deal with East African Breweries Limited.

The new package is worth Sh3.7 million and is divided to serve three elements under KRU including Kenya Sevens National team, Kenya Women’s National Rugby team, the Safari Sevens tournament, and next year’s international competitions.

Shujaas have walked away with Sh10 million while the Lionesses will be managing Sh2.5 million. Sh5 million will go into the 2020 international contests as Safari Sevens bags the biggest chunk of Sh20 million.

“It’s my pleasure to be here partnering with the KRU to grow the sport across the country,” Eric Kiniti, the EABL Group Corporate Relations Director, said during at the unveiling event.

EABL Marketing and Innovation Director, Graham Villiers said the breweries company is out to bring people together while promoting the sport with the deal.

“For us, Tusker is about bringing people together and standing tall. It’s a privilege for us to continue this journey with rugby. This partnership marks the next chapter in the sport of rugby,” he said.

On his side, KRU chairman Oduor Gangla expressed his happiness terming Tusker as a partner which has always walked the journey with Rugby in the country. “We can all attest to the fact that we have had the best Sevens Circuit in the recent years and Tusker has played a huge role in promoting the sport and ensuring fans enjoy themselves all round,” he said.

Dr Walter Ongeti, the advisor of the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ambassador Amina Mohammed was also present during the announcement.
