Wazito FC Promote Injured Player to Club’s New CEO

Kenya Premier League side Wazito FC has announced the appointment of captain Dennis Gicheru as the new club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with immediate effect.

Gicheru who is currently recuperating after undergoing knee surgery in August will not be part of the playing unit at least at the end of the first leg.

Gicheru, on his second spell with the club, helped the team bounce back to the Kenyan Premier League at the end of the 2018/19 campaign and club president Ricardo Badoer says the move is part of the club’s continued efforts to nurture talents outside the pitch.

“As part of our policy of nurturing and exposing talents outside the realm of active football play, we wish to confirm that the club has appointed Dennis Gicheru as the club CEO effective immediately as he recovers and recuperates from his injury,” Ricardo said.

He further stated that the defender is at liberty to resume playing once he recovers or walk away from active football altogether and focus on his new role as the club CEO.

“Let it be noted that the club has given him the option to either pursue his football career once he recovers or to fully decide to take up the role. We wish him well as he undertakes his new duties geared towards scaling the club to greater heights,” he added.
