A section of Busia residents have said that the government’s move to close all bars during the census weekend will not affect them. They will just crossover to neighbouring Uganda to do their thing.

“Matiang’i should know that we will cross the border. We’ll enter Uganda, enjoy our drinks and return to Kenya when we want,” one resident told a local media house.

“We’ll enter Uganda, do what we want and return to Kenya when we want, including 10 pm or 11 pm,” said yet another one.

The alcohol lovers added that the cost of buying alcohol in the neighbouring country is cheaper, a bottle goes for Ksh100.

On Thursday, Matiang’i maintained that bars and other social places including church keshas will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday to allow for the smooth counting of people.

” You can go have your drink between 2pm and 5pm. More experienced people tell me that if you are not satisfied by beer after three whole hours then there is something wrong with you,” Matiang’i said.
