Mzee Kenyatta’s Barefoot Photo Re-kindles Past Memories

As the country converges to commemorate 41 years after the death of the country’s founding father, Jomo Kenyatta, eagle-eyed and investigative Kenyans have sunk and come out with rare pictures of Mzee Kenyatta during his childhood days.

In one of the pictures that have caused excitement on social media, Kenyatta is seen all clad in a grey coat, a white trouser and a walking stick but interestingly, he had no shoes to cover his feet.

The photo immediately rekindled memories of Jomo’s era, with many remembering him for the famous ‘Harambee slogan’ with others still trying to find answers to what exactly led to an abrupt demise of Kenya first President.

Mzee Kenyatta passed away on August August 22, 1978, in Mombasa. Despite reports that he died peacefully in his sleep,  former Presidential Press Unit Information Officer, Lee Njiru, recently made shocking revelations alleging that the founding father fainted at his toilet in Msambweni.

According to Njiru, Mzee had reached a stage where he could not remember simple things and was unable to sign documents.

Njiru further added that the president would have lived longer were it not for negligence, claiming that he didn’t get the best of medical attention in spite of his advanced age and failing health.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Thursday, led the nation in commemorating 41 years since the demise of Mzee Kenyatta.

Speaking after laying a wreath of flowers at Jomo Kenyatta’s mausoleum located next to Parliament buildings, Uhuru announced that there will be no more memorial celebrations on the same noting that he had consulted with his family.

Among the notable government and political leaders who graced the occasion was Deputy President William Ruto, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, Senate Majority and Minority leaders, Kipchumba Murkomen and James Orengo, among others.
