Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) Party Leader Isaac Ruto has come clean on his meeting with Opposition Leader Raila Odinga at Capital Hill which had raised speculations of a 2022 political merger.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, the former Bomet Governor refuted claims that he is plotting a political route with the Opposition leader. He said the meeting had nothing to do with politics as he wen there to discuss the looming Mau evictions.

Asked to clarify if he paid Raila a courtesy call to plead for his support in sparing the Mau residents from eviction, Ruto denied claiming that he wanted Raila and any other politician to know that the looming evictions were unconstitutional and unfair.

“We were not there for political issues. We went there to discuss with him like you saw us discussing with Gideon Moi (Baringo Senator) and we will be discussing with others. We have got a pressing issue in the South Rift, the question of evictions in Mau.”

“I know that those people have not encroached on gov’t land,” he added.

Ruto went further to defend the embattled Mau residents claiming that they never invaded in any government land as they were living on the 22nd block of the forest, which is under the county government of Narok, away from forest land which is under Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
