People have always been requested to be very careful while handling food as a likeliness because food making is a delicate process. On the other hand, handling food is an immaculate process. Since these are things we consume, you need to assume the highest safety and hygiene standards. This goes beyond checking whether the milk is expired. One needs to know how to store different foods, what to touch with bare hands and what not to.

Over the past few days, numerous reports have risen where Kenyans were either diagnosed with cholera or food poisoning from an event they attended. On Monday, four people were reported dead of suspected food poisoning. They attended the dowry ceremony last Thursday.

The ceremony was in Kieni, Nyeri county. Groom’s mother among the dead. Groom Patrick Githui admitted to KNH. Over 100 people attended the ceremony. The incidents have sparked online uproar and below were some reactions.

Charity Mutete Don’t call them meals of death, probably someone dropped a cigarrete or was smoking cigarette near the cooking area and some tobacco went into the food.
Gladys Syombua the idea if cooking food elsewhere and then transporting it,increases chances of contamination so much, if its possible to cook at site, the better.
Kissinger Githinji Another excuse why we won’t serve food in all upcoming events. Beba zako mwenyewe.
Bernadette Wanjala I have a phobia of eating in ceremonies….harusi, matanga …name it! I can’t deal with food poisoning! Food for many is never handled properly! Mostly they start preparing the day before but they dont preserve well! I walk with my soda and water na roho safi!

Benytow Musiq Am feeling for the guy so much.. Imagine your mum dying just like that all in the name of ur pre.wedding to make the matters worse food poisoning.. As for me I don’t think I can absorb such a shock… God remember them. 😭😭😭😭😭
Alex Mwanĩki-Kũng’ũ They say mwacha mila ni mtumwa….in true kikuyu culture mugeni dokaga ni irio ciake…..(your visitor can not carry the food they will eat at your place)….secondly you can never ask more dowry than you paid for her mother otherwise the difference will destroy you. We say we follow the white man’s religion but want to hold on to culture that we use to exploit our in laws.
