10 man Gor Mahia beat Bandari to claim first trophy of the season

Reigning Kenya Premier League Champions Gor Mahia are the new winners of the Kenya Premier League Super Cup after seeing off Bandari United 1-0 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The First half saw both sides waste good opportunities to score. Gor Mahia’s Wellington Ochieng attempted a back pass that was intercepted by the Bandari attack but David Kingatua’s shot was well over the bar.

The former Thika United midfielder had another chance from a freekick minutes later but his effort sailed just wide off the mark. Gor Mahia slowly got a foothold of the match and Kenneth Miguna found Cliffton Miheso but the left-footed winger’s feeble shot was well saved by the Bandari goalkeeper.

Gor Mahia would, however, go ahead on the hour mark through Lawrence Juma’s deflected shot. A quick counter by the Champions saw Juma shoot from the edge of the area and the ball deflected off a Bandari defender for the opener.

Kenneth Muguna almost added Gor Mahia’s advantage but was unlucky to see his shot sail just over the bar. Gor Mahia was reduced to ten men for the last 15 minutes after Tobias Otieno was sent off for a second bookable offense.

Bandari huffed and puffed in search of an equalizer but could not get past the resolute K’Ogallo defense. The Championsheld on to record their first trophy of the Stephen Pollack era.
