Kenyans not ready for Francis Kimanzi as Harambee Stars coach

Do you think Coach Kimanzi can take Harambee stars to the next level if given a chance?

Harambee Stars were dealt a huge blow on Monday after the resignation of their head coach Sebastian Migne. The former Congo coach’s departure was confirmed by the Football Kenya Federation, who also promised his replacement in the next 24 hours.

Migne exited after producing a dismal performance in the 32nd edition of the African Cup of Nation and worse of all, failed to qualify for the CHAN 2020 after losing to Tanzania on penalty shootouts at Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Kenyans were wounded after the failure and were constantly calling for the resignation of the Frenchman, who acceded to their demand.

Fans are currently on the watch and are eagerly waiting to receive their new coach. But their online conversation has stalled on whether to bring in a foreign coach or hire a local one.

Migne was assisted by a Kenyan coach Francis Kimanzi and fans cannot hold on the idea that the Kenya U-23 coach should be trusted with the job.

Kimanzi was appointed head coach of Harambee Stars on 11 December 2008 after serving in the position as a caretaker since May 2008. He was then sacked after the 2008 CECAFA Cup in January 2009 due to disputes between him and Kenyan football administrators.

After a 1-year stint coaching club side Sofapaka, he was reappointed as head coach of the Kenyan national team in November 2011. In June 2012 he was sacked again as manager of Kenya alongside his entire coaching staff after Kenya failed to qualify for the 2013 African Nations Cup.

On 25 July, he resigned as Mathare United coach, stating that he wanted to shift focus on his current duty as the coach of the Kenya U-23 and the assistant coach of the senior team.
