Former presidential candidate Martha Karua has revealed her cordial relationship with the AU Representative Raila Odinga.
Speaking with renowned journalist Ann Kiguta in the latest episode of Punchline on K24, Martha Karua claimed that she has a very cordial relationship with Raila. Karua stated Raila is always a phone call away, whenever she has an issue, she will always call Raila. Face to face, their relationship is still affectionate.
Karua boldly claimed that she has worked with Raila for quite a long time. They both struggled for the second liberation of the nation.
In the second liberation which Martha Karua claims they worked hand in hand with Raila, activists engaged riot police in running battles in the streets of many towns. Kenyans were tired and stood up to speak against the rule of the then President Moi.

It was sad that Kenyans lost their lives fighting for their rights. This urge came after Kenyans were unable to cope further with the one-party rule, which came into effect in 1982 when Kanu passed a constitutional amendment. Instead of benefiting us, the amendment acted as a gate pass for dictatorship into the country.
Karua’s fight was pivotal as Raila among other activists sought asylum in foreign countries while others were jailed by Moi’s administration. She was among the few leaders who continued with the fight for multi-party democracy in Kenya.
But Karua, Raila’s fight was successful because President Moi heeded to the pressure in 1991 and made Kenya a multi-party democracy.
