Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Saturday threatened that the country will lead into a loss of lives and destruction of properties after the 2022 elections if a referendum will not be held.

The ODM MP has further vowed that the Opposition Leader Raila Odinga, who is yet to announce his presidential ambition, will succeed Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Posting on his Facebook page, the controversial legislator is now calling on Kenyans to brass for a change of constitution which will be held through a referendum.

We must change the constitution and Raila MUST be the PRESIDENT in 2022. Kenyans must prepare for a Referendum to avoid loss of lives and destruction of properties after elections“, read Owino’s Facebook post.

The referendum question has been raising controversy with just a day after Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria argued that the involved legislators have already expressed a conflict of interest.

Kuria criticized them for trying to take advantage of the initiative to push for a referendum which will create the position of a powerful executive Prime Minister and a popularly elected but powerless President.

“What I have observed is that those who turned out to give their views are only those who agree with the handshake and who already have fixed their minds that we will have a referendum to create a parliamentary system under a powerful executive Prime Minister and a popularly elected but powerless President.”
