Nandwa moves to the Awendo based side, three months after he resigned from his position as Kangemi AllStars coach. The team was later relegated to Division One league.

Sony has been facing a myriad of challenges stemming from their lack of finances. There were fears that the team could be disbanded but on Sunday the team resumed training ahead of 2019/20 season.

Nandwa has now been tasked with assembling a new squad for the Awendo based side, he will replace Patrick Odhiambo who resigned from the position in June and joined Gor Mahia. Former AFC Leopards, Tusker, Sofapaka, and Harambee Stars team manager Willis ‘Awilo’ Waliaula will also join the team as a technical director.

“Nandwa and Awilo are joining the team. As we speak they are on their way to Awendo for their official unveiling later today,” a source from the sugar belt told Opera News.

Nandwa boasts of a wealth of experience having coached Kenyan Premier League sides Tusker FC, AFC Leopards Thika United, and the national team Harambee Stars. He led Leopards to the Gotv Shield title in 2013 and was in charge of Harambee Stars when Kenya reached the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup final in 2012 before they lost to Uganda in the final.

Club Secretary General Bonface Odhiambo says they are not worried despite losing a number of key players. Some of the players who quit the club are Joshua Nyatini, Derrick Otanga, and Kevin Omondi, the trio joined Wazito FC.

Skipper Enock Agwanda moved to KCB. While the trio of Abdallah Wankuru, Salim Odeka, and Kelvin Wesonga moved to Western Stima. Patrick Ochieng and Maxwell Onyango joined Kisumu All-Stars. Gor Mahia roped in Tobias Otieno and Abdalla Shira.

“We are not worried at all. We have 18 established players on board and we have identified more who will join the team. The team we had was assembled last year alone and that shows we will never lack talents to sign. Sony will have a very strong team come next season,” Odhiambo told Opera News.
