Western Kenya and in specific Kakamega county which is largely dominated by the Luyha community has over time been known best for its ‘good relationship’ with food.
The community’s undying love for Flying Vegetables (Chicken), Ugali, also commonly known Phusuma, as well as tea, has put the Luyha community on the map of Kenya with their men allegedly being one of the ‘Strongest’ beings in Kenya
The most common stereotypes that many comedians and Kenyans hold in general is that you cannot pronounce the word food and Luyha in two different sentence lines. Instead, they both usually sound in one sentence line.
However, what has gotten the attention of many Kenyans Online is that most deaths emanating from Kakamega county are related to food disputes.
They say Kenyans never forget and as such, most have come up with compiled controversial deaths from Kakamega county which were allegedly caused by misunderstandings related to food.
One of the most controversial deaths reported from Kakamega is that of Mzee Gabriel Nangamo, 60-years old who collapsed and died on January 2019 after his 26-year-old daughter denied him the chance to indulge in a hot cup of tea.

The most recent controversial death is that of an alleged Chicken thief who was tied and beaten up by villagers in a mob justice before a heartless man emerged and single-handedly hacked him to death.
