Uhuru’s Cabinet reshuffle aims to redeem lost glory

President Uhuru Kenyatta has reshuffled his cabinet following the arrest of Treasury Cabinet Secretary  Henry Rotich and his principal secretary  Kamau Thunge were arrested over the conspiracy to defraud the government billions aimed for the construction Arro and Kmarer dam in the rift valley.

Since their arrest on Monday, there has been a public outcry for the government to suspend them till they are cleared of the wrongdoings.

A statement sent to newsrooms by State House spokesperson Kanze Dena read;

“In order to ensure smooth operations and continuity at the National Treasury…following the court order affecting the cabinet secretary for the National Treasury and Planning, Henry Rotich, and Treasury Principal Secretary, Dr. Kamau Thugge, His Excellency the President has made the following changes to the organization of Government:

Labour CS Ukur Yattani has been appointed Treasury CS in an acting capacity while Julius Monzi Muia has been appointed as the Principal Secretary for the National Treasury. He was the PS for Planning.

Political players have said that the reshuffle by the president is aimed to redeem the lost glory of the Jubilee government following the numerous scandal since its inception in 2013.

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo was earlier quoted by a section of the media urging the head of state to strike the whip and reshuffle the cabinet.

Kabogo was quoted saying that the time is ripe for the Jubilee and the Judiciary to redeem the lost glory.

“What does the constitution state about civil servants implicated in scandals? If you are implicated in any way, kindly do the honorary thing and step aside. If you are clean, you will be validated once the investigation is done,” the former was quoted saying.

Aman National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi had also aired his thought urging Rotich ad Thuge to resign following their implication.

Earlier while addressing the public, the head of state ha said that no one will be spared in the fight against corruption.

“No one will be spared in the fight against corruption whether you are my brother, my friend or anyone, the fight must go on,” the president ha said.

A section of the rift valley politicians led by Kipchumba Morkomen had accused section of the Jubilee politicians of targetting the Kalenjin community.

Morkomen said that the fight against corruption won’t be attained as its all directed to fight the DP Ruto presidency 2022.

Among others who have been appointed include Torome Saitoti has been appointed as the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Planning.

Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa has been appointed as the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Defence.
