AFC Leopards was founded in 1964 as Abaluhya Football Club. A presidential ban on tribal clubs in 1979 saw the team renamed All Fans United Football Club. The team enjoyed huge success in the 80s and 90s but in recent years, success, especially in the league has been elusive.

Ingwe, as it is famously known, is a community club owned by the larger Luhya tribe from Western Kenya. Its main rival is Gor Mahia, a club majorly supported by the Luo community. The two face-off in what’s dubbed the Mashemeji (In-laws) derby.

The team has been labeled as the sleeping giant of Kenyan football owing to its poor infield show. It’s Kenya’s second most successful club with 13 league titles, the team last won the Kenyan Premier League title in 1998.

Instability at the club and the inconsistency in performance have been attributed to successive bad leadership at the club and coach frequent coaches turnovers. The team has been coached by over 12 coaches since 2014. The last title the team won was the Shield title in 2017.

Tottenham Hotspurs Midfielder Victor Wanyama featured for the club before his move to Europe.
