Arsenal linked with sensational Brazil winger as Edu’s influence grows

Brazil international Everton Soares is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Emirates with Globo Esporte claiming Arsenal’s interest is being driven by Edu.

Arsenal’s new technical director has obviously seen the Gremio striker at close quarters over the last few years with the 23-year-old scoring three times for Le Selecão in their recent Copa America triumph.

Several other big-name clubs have also been tipped to sign the player in recent months, including Manchester City, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan.

The report claims that Gremio won’t accept anything less than €40 million for a player who has been on their books since he was 16. It’s also said that after a couple of big exits in recent years, including Arthur to Barcelona, they aren’t under any financial pressure to sell.

The report also claims that Edu has been in contact with the player’s agent Gilmar Veloz.

Having already signed Gabriel Martinelli and with links to Gremio’s Argentine defender Walter Kannemann also doing the rounds, it seems that Arsenal is looking for players in the South American market.

Unai Emery’s team finished 5th last year and lost the Europa League final 4-1 to London rivals Chelsea in Baku. One of the main problems that the team endured last season was the lack of a wide forward.

It left the goalscoring burden in the team entirely on Alexander Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners have also been linked with Crystal Palace winger Wilfred Zaha but the asking price of 80 million British pounds not within Arsenal’s budget.

Everton Soares could be the alternative to Zaha with Edu’s links to the player likely to play a huge role should a deal materialize.
