The 2018-19 National Super League winners Wazito FC have signed Kenya international Benard Ochieng. This is in a move to strengthen their defense ahead of the start of Kenyan Premier League slated for 30 August.
Ochieng, a highly-rated defender whose hard work at Vihiga United earned him a call-up to the National team, Harambee Stars signed a deal with the Camp Toyoyo based side, and will open the new season in Wazito’s jersey.
“It is great to sign here. This is a club I have admired in how it manages its affairs and it is a good feeling to be worthy of playing for it”, Ochieng said.
The 23-year-old teacher graduated at Kenyatta University and has been playing football as a central defender. He will help in keeping Wazito’s back intact alongside Captain Dennis Gicheru and Lloyd Wahome.
Speaking on the signing, sporting director Solomon Alubala revealed that he has been trailing the utility man who can also play as a right-back or in midfield for a while and is glad to sign him “I have wanted to sign Bernard Ochieng’ for some time now, I guess patience pays and this is the right moment to have him darn our jersey”, he said.
The former Vihiga United defender was part of the squad that travelled to Cairo for AFCON, a tournament that Kenya was bundled out in the group stages.
