Even as the 2022 succession politics gain momentum, a section of Rift Valley leaders affiliated to the former ruling party KANU, have come out to call for the Kalenjin community to support Baringo Senator Gideon Moi for Presidency in 2022 saying the community had no other option.

Led by Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket, the leaders opined that it was high time for the Kalenjin community to consider having Moi as their better option since Deputy President William Ruto whom the community was supporting has proven not to be capable of leading the country.

“DP Ruto has reached the end of the road and as the Kalenjin community we have to sit down and restrategize on how we will back senator Moi” said Kamket.

Kamket said Ruto had his chance to take over the mantle but wasted it through corruption and numerous scandals associated with him. He added that Ruto who was in front had already lost direction and they have started as a community to look for another kingpin. He observed that Dp had been told even by the president to go slowly but he has not been listening.

AS THE POKOT community, we have decided that we will back Senator Gideon Moi in 2022 presidential elections~ MP Kamket.

Baringo woman representative Gladwell Cheruiyot also called on Kenyans to allow them campaign for their party chairman who is Gideon Moi the way the Jubilee are defending Ruto.

“Why is it that when we talk about the party which we used to get into office, some people start abusing us yet everybody has the right to defend and support any party of their choice” she questioned.

Loiyamorok MCA Maria Losile said that she is confident that Senator Moi will emerge the fifth president of Kenya, adding that the rest of the community should follow suit.

Kolowa ward MCA Solomon Makale added that the only Government which will be formed in 2022 will be that one for KANU party, urging Kalenjins to connect to the ‘Network’. The leaders were speaking in Tirioko ward, Tiaty during the inauguration ceremony of Tirioko ward chief Carlos Kapkoikat.

On his side KANU chairman Gideon Moi while speaking during the memorial service of the late Kabarnet town mayor John Kiprono, in Kituro over the weekend, said that this is not the right time for politics but instead urged the elected leaders to focus on delivering their campaign pledges to the citizenry.

Moi added that he is willing to work with any other leader irrespective of the party, to see to it that the county progresses.

Gideon Moi has been alleged to be plotting for a coalition between him and ODM boss Raila Odinga ahead of 2022. The son of the former President has not been in good terms with the region’s kingpin Dr. William Ruto due to political interests.

The two leaders are each trying to control the vote-rich Rift Valley region with statistics showing that Ruto already has a massive following in the region as compared to Gideon. Over the weekend, Ruto was in Eldama Ravine, Baringo to lead different fundraising functions where he took the opportunity to sell his political agendas to the huge crowd that promised to stand with him in 2022.
