Orengo calls for renaming of Nyayo Stadium after Kadenge, Kenyans blast him

Kenyans have criticized Siaya Senator James Orengo for proposing that Nyayo Stadium should be named after the departed  football legend Joe Kadenge. Orengo, who spoke during the Senate House of Business on Tuesday, stated that as a way to remember the fallen sports hero, the stadium should be renamed in his honour.

“At this time as we remember him (Joe Kadenge) it will be incumbent upon the Kenyan government that one of the National Stadium should be named after Kadenge, since there are so many Stadium with the name Nyayo, I think Nyayo Stadium should become the Kadenge Stadium and the Kasarani one can be left with Moi,” Senate Minority Leader Orengo said.

His counterpart Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula also supported the idea. “I join Senator Orengo in urging that Nyayo Stadium changed to Joe Kadenge International Stadium.”

But Kenyans do not consider that as the best idea as they fault the leaders for honouring heroes when they are dead but neglect them during their times of suffering.

Their sentiments were echoed by Veteran broadcaster Leonard Mambo Mbotela who said that our leaders are hypocritical and did little to help the legend when he was ill.

“Apart from President Uhuru Kenyatta, who visited him at his home and offered to support him, none of those falling over themselves to send condolences did anything for him,” remarked Mbotela.

“It is all pure show off and I term it hypocritical. The government takes the biggest flack for ignoring him and letting him down, yet he did so much for this country.”

”It pains me that he died in the condition he did and those who knew Kadenge also share my pain and disappointment. We should not be praising him now that he is dead yet we did nothing to make his life better.”

Here are what Kenyans had to say about Senator Orengo’s remarks;

Philip Owino Philip Owino Munga Mwachiro no that wont happen…let’s name this stadium under renovation in honour of this football legend..or even city stadium..jubilee promised 5 new stadiums upto now still a mirage!

Samuel Otieno Paul Mulandi this is a societal problem my brother. When sick no one contributes for medication but when dead, you get a coffin worth even 200k. It’s not only the leaders but every one including you sir.

Paul Mulandi Samuel Otieno True bro. But change starts with me. Let’s change this. I can imagine how many politicians will ” grace ” the occasion and how many people will attend the funeral. Praises then after the burial the family is forgotten.

Munga Mwachiro Stupid Idea let them construct a Joe Kadenge Stadium

Bon Oginga Let the county govt of vihiga/ afc leopards build a stadium and name after him,,

Ken Libby Kwa sababu amekufa ama? Politicians are always not serious

Ken Muiruri Wewe ukikufa jiulize ata choo yenu kaa itaekwa jina yako ,concentrate na yanayo kuhusu moshenzi

Steve Dau Mwezi I like Joe Kadenge but his name is not worth a stadium. No Kenyan footballer has ever had an impact big enough for even a street to be named after him.

Alexis Alex Amefinya mawazo uyo

Kiguhe Mbwaya Jengeni mpya.Nyayo ni ya mzee.

Vihiga Senator George Khaniri confirmed that the fallen Kenyan international will be laid to rest on 20 July at his home county in Vihiga.
