Brazil goalkeeper Alison Becker proved that he is a quick learner when he met Lionel Messi in the Copa America semi-final. Brazil cruised into the finals after beating Argentina 2-0, thanks to the brilliant goals by Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firminho.

The Selecao were simply too strong on the night as Lionel Messi’s side went crashing out of yet another international tournament. However, Argentina were not without shots on target but they could not find their way past the imperious Becker.

Becker proved why he is being considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world by keeping ninth consecutive clean-sheet in all competitions and fifth in the Copa America competition.

In the 65th minute, Messi lined up a free-kick and hoped to wrong-foot Liverpool’s keeper or curl an effort beyond his grasp. Unfortunately for the Barcelona striker, he could do neither and had to watch as Alisson simply caught his dipping effort, who made it look easy.

The Reds’ keeper learnt a lesson during the Champions League semi-finals first leg when Messi fired a sublime curling free-kick into the top corner of the post. A match that almost denied Liverpool a chance to reach the final. But Becker greatly helped his team in the amazing comeback at Anfield where the Reds converted Barca’s 3-0 victory to 4-0 loss, going through to the finals.

The Brazilian is now on the brink of becoming the first goalkeeper in history to simultaneously hold the Golden Glove prize in each of the three major competitions in which he has entered in a single season.

Alisson signed for Liverpool in July 2018. In his first season at the club, he received the Premier League Golden Glove for most clean sheets in the league and kept another clean sheet as Liverpool won the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final.
