President Uhuru Kenyatta’s succession battle is escalating to worse scenarios with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoning four Cabinet Secretaries on allegations that linked them to a secret plot to eliminate the Deputy President William Ruto.

Now a leader of the Kieleweke team (associated with President Uhuru Kenyatta) suggests that the DP should step down unconditionally as a sign of decency as investigations take place.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu claims that the DP has accused people associated with President Uhuru of plotting to kill him hence interfering with the development agenda.

Ngunjiri shared a post on his Facebook page which he claimed he was in complete agreement with.

“Ruto and his bloggers accused Uhuru people of planning to kill him. Common decency dictates he steps down,” read the post.

A local newspaper on Sunday carried an article which said two of Ruto’s aides are being sought by the DCI on suspicion they circulated the letter. It said the two are from the communications department.

Trade and Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya who was first to complain over the alleged plot, accused Ruto of linking him to the plot without proper investigations.

Other leaders include Transport minister James Macharia, ICT boss Joe Mucheru and Health CS Sicily Kariuki .

“We want to confirm we have been having meetings. Indeed, we had a meeting in La Mada and we will continue having meetings because, under the Constitution of Kenya, there is freedom of assembly and expression,” Munya.
