Matiang’i declines to renew contracts of 19 Betting firms

The Interior Fred Matiang’i is determined to end the era of betting in the country. Just on Saturday Dr Fred Matiang’i warned betting firms putting their existence hanging on a feeble peg.

Dr Matiang’i said on Saturday that he had already received a status report from the Betting Control And Licencing Board and was reviewing it.

He explained that most of the firms had not been paying taxes.

“They must all comply with the law,” he said.

The minister regretted that youths are not productive as they spend most of their time “in bed betting”.

Due to that, the Interior Ministry in collaboration with the betting and the licensing board has declined to renew licenses of 19 betting companies in the country.

The Government has resolved on tightening the knot on the already existing betting firms by regulating their availability,affordability and accessibility of all forms the gambling.

Moreover, the government is determined to carry out sustained vetting of all licenses in the betting industry and shall therefore not hesitate to bar non-compliant companies.

The existing licenses will undergo quartely review to make sure that they meet the required threshold of compliance and the cumulative review will be used to warrant renewal of the contract.

The Board has basically tightened all operations that guide the betting industry in the country.

However the Government has vowed to provide a conducive environment for all betting firms in their operations.
