Uganda national team head coach, Sebastien Desabre has admitted that his side’s match against Zimbabwe on Wednesday was a tough one.

Despite taking the lead early in the game through Emmanuel Okwi, the Cranes were forced to settle for a point in the duel after Khama Billiat equalized for Zimbabwe just before halftime.

The Warriors dominated the second stanza missing numerous chances and in the end, Uganda gratefully embraced a point from the match they were so close to losing.

Speaking after the match, Desabre admitted that his side failed to manage pressure from their opponents well.

“It was a difficult game for us. We took command of the game, scoring first but we did not accept the pressure of the game. It was clear that we did not manage the time well after scoring,” he said.

The Frenchman further stated that his side looked tired during the game because they used too much energy during their 2-0 win over DRC Congo last Saturday.

“Our fitness levels were not good enough. DR Congo had worn us apart. We knew Zimbabwe for their good combination display and they gave us a good challenge,” he added.

Uganda have all but qualified for the round of 16 as the four points they have picked so far puts them in a position to qualify as ‘best losers’ at the worst. Their final match of the group will be against hosts, Egypt.
