Residents of Uasin Gishu county and in particular Eldoret town have praised interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i over the recent shuffling of County’s Commissioner Abdi Hassan.

Led by the county’s blogger Lord PK Kimutai, the residents welcomed the ministers move to transfer Commissioner Abdi Hassan to Kisumu county and in process welcoming their new county commissioner Abdirisak Jaldesa hoping that the new commissioner will help them curb the rising cases of insecurity in the agriculturally rich county.

According to the residents, the old commissioner had done little to salvage the already escalating crime rate in the county which had so far led to the death of many residents.

Many had complained that Hassan had turned a deaf hear on the public’s outcry after research released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) in April this year ranked Eldoret as the town with the highest number of crime cases reported in 2018.

Three days ago, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen’s PA Benson Kiptire was reportedly abducted from his shop in Kimumu Eldoret town by men alleged to be police officers and his body later found dumped in a thicket in Kamatira Forest, West Pokot County.

This incident sparked hungry reactions from a section of the town’s residents who called for the transfer of their county commissioner who according to them had done little to improve security in the town.

In April this year, a Kenya Defence Forces soldier in the Military Intelligence Department shot dead his uncle, an aunt and an alleged mistress in Jua Kali area of Eldoret town.

This incident happened only some few days after  Ivy Wangechi a finalist student at Moi University School of Medicine was hacked to death by a suspect identified as Kinuthia outside Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Eldoret.

In February 2019,  a 37-year-old Eldoret man based at Kapsoya estate allegedly killed his girlfriend, partly burned her body and asked his neighbour to help him dump the body.

Such death incidences together with numerous car theft and robberies in Eldoret had pushed the locals to the limits and with the transfer of the county’s commisioner, the residents are hopeful that the new commissioner will return normalcy to the north rift town.

Here are some reactions from the residents:

Lilian Tuwei So true he is the right guy we schooled together he is a person of action

Elisha Kisha Kiptoo Abdi was nice, I can tell you that for free OCS and that small ranks ndo issue

Kirwa Elphas Thank you matiangi

Some, however, blamed the police officers and their bosses in the county for the rot insecurity saying that the former county Commissioner tried his best.
