Shortly after their loss Algeria in the group C Africa Cup Of Nations opener, Harambee Stars were treated to a courtesy visit by Hon. Raila Odinga. The former prime minister was in the company of Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, Principal Secretary Amb. Kirimi Kaberia and Kenyan Ambassador to Egypt H.E Joff Otieno.
Raila Odinga congratulated the team despite the loss and tipped them to make matters better with a win against Tanzania in their next fixture on Thursday.
”I congratulate all of you for the efforts you put in especially in the second half. We have a chance of righting the wrongs against Tanzania and am sure we will achieve it,” Raila Odinga told the team.
Quickfire Algeria goals from Baghdad Bounedjah and Riyad Mahrez in the first half all but settled the tie. Sebastian Migne’s men showed improvement after the break but it was a little too late as the Algerians held on to pick three vital points.
Harambee Stars now must win against Tanzania on Thursday in an East Africa derby to have any chance of progressing to the knock out round. Tanzania equally lost 2-0 in their match against Senegal and must also win against Kenya to revive any slim hopes they have of making it past the group stages.
