AFCON 2019: Harambee Stars receive historic reception after landing in Cairo

Harambee Stars have received a warm reception upon arriving in Cairo ahead of the oncoming African Cup of Nation, a tournament that Kenya will be gracing after a period of 15 years in the cold.

The Kenya National Team jetted to Cairo from France where they had spent about 19 days to prepare for the actual tournament.

Stars were privileged to engage in two friendly matches in the course of their preparation; they first went against Madagascar at Stade Robert Bobin, France where they defeated their opponents 1-0. They held their second friendly match against Democratic Republic of Congo at Madrid, Spain where they were held to a 1-1 draw.

The results were fairly good for the Harambee Stars though they lost their sensational defender Brian Mandela who succumbed to an injury during training.

The team arrived in Cairo on 19 June, 2019 and they will be holding light training as they await their opening match against Algeria on Sunday.

The team was received well after landing safely. Dressed in white shirts, beige khaki pants and a navy blue coats, the team was received by their glorious bus branded Kenya which collected them from the airport to their hostels.

Kenya is in group C alongside Tanzania, Algeria and the Sadio Mane led team Senegal.

The first match will be against Algeria on June 23. Tanzania will be up next on June 27, before Kenya winds up her group stage matches against Senegal on July 1, 2019.
