Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek clears the air on his future amidst United interests

Ajax and Dutch creative midfielder Donny van de Beek has admitted he knows not what the future has in store for him amid transfer speculations linking him with a move to Manchester United who is keenly looking for a midfielder.

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is working on improving his squad this summer and is in need of a new midfielder following the departure of Ander Herrera and the uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba’s future who is needed in Real Madrid.

Van de Beek had a fine season, scoring 17 goals and assisting a further 13, as Ajax claimed the Eredivisie title and came within a whisker of qualifying for the Champions League final after being clubbed out at the semifinals by Tottenham Hotspurs.

The 22-year-old Van de Beek has also been linked with the same team that dumped his side, Ajax out in dramatic fashion in the semi-finals, Tottenham Hotspur which is also giving him sleepless nights although there is yet no official enquiries that have been made public.

Rumours were fuelled early this week when Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan told sports media “Van de Beek has his eyes set on the Premier League, further propagating his possible desire to move to the EPL.

“He is a proper Premier League player with an Ajax education and can play in many positions in midfield, “He wants a move to Man United or Spurs and his agent says if that materialises that would be right up his street,” he added.

Yet the Dutchman provided an update on his own future following the Netherland’s 1-0 defeat to Portugal in the Nations League final who carried home the trophy after a second-half goal.

“My situation is I have a contract with Ajax and I’m really happy,” Van de Beek told journalists. “You never know what’s going to happen in the future but I can say nothing about that.” he reiterated.

Van de Beek also discussed the future of another United target and teammate Matthijs de Ligt, who is also a United target and a host of other European clubs as well as the future of the Ajax team.

“I don’t know. A lot of clubs want to buy him. I think so because he is a good player and now he has to choose for himself. Where he feels good, he has to go there,” he said on De Ligt.

“You see that a lot. Players go to another country, another competition, that’s normal in Holland, in the Dutch league, you see that a lot of times.”
