The nation witnessed two appointments in one day which have created different reactions from Kenyans.

Treasury Cabinet secretary Henry Rotich Thursday appointed James Githii Mburu as the new Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner-General, taking over from Mr John Njiraini.

At the same time, president Uhuru Kenyatta extended Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) governor Patrick Njoroge’s term by four years.

Exiled Lawyer Dr Miguna Miguna is among the people who have given criticism to the new appointments.

According to Miguna Miguna, James Githii Mburu has not been appointed KRA Commissioner General because he is the most qualified Kenyan.

Miguna also takes a swipe at Patrick Njoroge’s and Njiraine’s contracts, saying they have not been extended due to their exemplary performance. The controversial further says that President Uhuru Kenyatta has only exercised tribalism and Elite favouritism.

“James Githii Mburu has not been appointed KRA Commissioner General because he is the most qualified Kenyan. Nor has Patrick Njoroge’s and Njiraine’s contracts been extended due to their exemplary performance. Uhuru Kenyatta has only exercised TRIBALISM and ELITE FAVOURITISM,” Miguna tweeted.

Mburu is reputed to have been a close confidant of the outgoing boss. He joined KRA 12 years ago in May 2007 with a brief to strengthen tax audit operations for the domestic taxes department.

However, Miguna Miguna is not the only person complaining about the appointment. Some other Kenyans have also recated negatively on Mburu’s appointment, accusing KRA of turning into a branch of NIS Instead of National Treasury.

Some Kenyans say Mburu is the one who planted moles to spy on employees at KRA.
