With the advent of the new currency notes just around the corner, Kenyans have been waiting in anticpation for the war on Graft to be stepped a notch higher.
Indeed, The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on Friday confirmed the dispatch of the first batch of new currency notes to commercial banks bringing into circulation the much awaited cash to the public.
Additionally, individuals exchanging currency that is below the Ksh. 1 million mark of the previous notes including non-account holders will now be able to obtain the fresh notes at commercial banks, CBK branches, and currency centers.
Moreover, the final batch of customers including non-account holders with sums above Ksh 1 million, as well as individuals exchanging currency notes above the Ksh 5 million mark will have to be endorsed by the Central Bank of Kenya first.
In addition to that, the older Ksh 1000 notes will be phased out by October 1st 2019, with other denominations poised to be in circulation with the other banknotes.
Below were a few reactions from netizens;
Somehow the CBK Patrick Njoroge had to find a way to have Jomo Kenyatta’s image on the new currency notes against the letter and spirit of the 2010 constitution!! Kweli Kenya ina wenyewe… Okiya Omtata will be in court on Monday to try to reverse this, an exercise in futility. pic.twitter.com/8AR3pxQKUj
