Nation Media Group under attack for allegedly reporting negatively on government projects

Kenyans on Thursday woke up to a harsh hashtag by a section of Kenyans on Twitter against the Nation Media Group’s alleged negative reporting on Government projects such as the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and affordable housing.

Specific journalists were lined up for attack in well designed photos and videos. Have these attackers been sponsored to attack the media house? Is NMG’s enemy somewhere paying bloggers to trend the hashtag? Well, the attack sounds somehow brutal, but why?

Last week on Saturday during the Madaraka Day Celebrations at Narok Stadium, President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the new generation notes. The Central Bank of Kenya governor Patrick Njoroge who presented the new generation notes to the head of state announced the withdrawal of the current Ksh 1000 notes by October 1, 2019.

Those in possession of the old Ksh 1000 notes are required to exchange them with the new notes by October.

The Nation Media Group through its sister Newspaper the Business Daily reported that CBK governor had made an announcement that those with more than Ksh 5 million in cash must contact CBK to get the new generation notes.

In response, CBK dismissed the claims clarifying that people who would like to exchange between Ksh 1 million and Ksh 5 million are required to do so in their banks, terming NMG’s report as inaccurate.

This has seen Kenyans launch an attack against NMG, under a hashtag dubbed #NationMediaGarbage, for allegedly reporting fake news.

But do you think the attack is fair? Are the claims being passed across against Nation Media group true?

Here are some of the reactions attacking the media house.
