Egerton University has joined the league of Higher learning institutions with architectural design gates in Kenyan soil.
The university plans to launch its multi-million gate constructed at a whopping cost of approximately Sh70 million on 14th June 2019.
The incredible gate with awful aesthetics was initiated by the former Vice Chancellor Prof Rose Mwonya in 2017.
Prof Mwonya was later suspended from office on allegations of financial impropriety.
Mwonya was greatly accused of authorising the construction of the gate at the Njoro campus which is fitted with ultra-modern security features.
The ultra-secure gate has a dual carriageway and other fascinating features.

However, some netizens have castigated the management of Egerton University for constructing the security checkpoint.
Many felt the money should have been invested in projects which will benefit the students and the education system in general.
Here is a sample of what KOT had to say:
Misplaced priorities. Studentsin our unis are killed every day due to insecurity as they seek hostels from outside. 70M has a whole complex of hostels , or a lecture halls to reduce congestion

It’s a tragedy!Travel to KU, you’ll see another white elephant in the name of Unicity Mall. You can imagine the misallocation of resources compared to funding engineering or medical school.

Egerton University new acquisition makes them join Kenyatta University that launched a modern gate in 2015 at a cost of Sh.20M.
The Thika Road-based institution brand new gate also has a broad dual carriageway smoother than that of Thika Super Highway.
Universities are investing heavily on the modern checkpoints to avert acts of terrorism at the public institutions.
In 2015, Al-Shabab militants raided on Garissa University killing nearly 147 people, mostly students.
The heavily armed attackers stormed the campus killing two security guards then firing indiscriminately on students.
With these modern gates, such cases can be controlled.
