First Signing! Daniel James set to undergo Man Utd medical today

Manchester United are close to confirming the signing of Daniel James from Swansea. The youngster is currently undergoing a medical. It is a promising start, strengthening the squad with a young, quick and athletic player, but the club needs and expects a lot more arrivals to follow. The fee for Daniel James is £15m plus £3m in add ons.

Monaco had made a late move for the Welshman while there was also interest from Everton and Leicester, but he had his heart set on a move to United.

He will complete the transfer on Thursday before traveling with the Wales squad to Croatia.

His signing emphasizes the change in transfer strategy at Old Trafford as Solskjaer looks to bring in young players with potential, rather than forking out huge sums on older stars.

James’ dream move to Old Trafford had been delayed by the sudden passing of his father, Kevan.

In an emotional Instagram post, the 21-year-old vowed to make him proud.

The post read: “There is not one day goes by that I don’t miss you, you are my inspiration and I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.

“I couldn’t be prouder as a son. You have never pushed me into anything I didn’t want to, you always wanted me to do what makes me happy.

James had come close to signing for Leeds in the January transfer window before a deal collapsed, giving Premier League clubs an opportunity to sign the EFL’s hottest property.

Signed from Hull’s academy in 2014 for £72,000, he followed in the footsteps of Joe Allen and Ben Davies by going from the youth set up to first team player and it was under Graham Potter where he made his Championship bow, against Birmingham in August 2018.
