Man United Shifts Focus to Sensational Benfica Star After Koulibaly Blow

Conserved, €95 million is also a huge sum of money but is significantly less than the sales price that Napoli wants to release Kalidou Koulibaly.

This is the amount Manchester United have presented to Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis to secure the signature of Kalidou Koulibaly.

Koulibaly has earned himself a name during his time in Italy and was named the best defender in the Serie A 2018-19 season.

The Senegal international is an integral part of a defence that kept 14 clean sheets in the Italian league this season as Carlo Ancelotti’s side finished runners-up to Juventus for the second year in a row.

According to reports, Koulibaly has been a long time target for United as the Red Devils have remained relentless in a bid to secure the signature of the Senegalese.

Strengthening the defence will no doubt be one of Solskjaer’s priorities, his side having kept just seven clean sheets throughout the league season.

However, the rumoured offer from United for Koulibaly seems unlikely to tempt Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis into selling.

For that reason, Manchester United have now shifted their focus to Ruben Dias from Benfica as their first priority to reinforce the defence centre this summer, according to reports.

Dias is primarily cheaper than Koulibaly, but he is also younger. Despite being just 22 years old, Dias has still been one of Benfica’s key players this season thanks to his sublime mind-blowing skills and turning defensive work.

The Portuguese midfielder has been rumoured to have a variety of clubs, but recent reports from Portugal indicate that Manchester United is currently at the forefront. The £ 52 million that Dias allegedly costs corresponds to his redemption clause.

The Red Devils have previously picked up Victor Lindelöf from Benfica, and although the Swede’s debut season was nothing to write home about, he was possibly the club’s best defensive player last season.
