Police escape death after missing an explosive planted on the road by Al-Shabab 

Image result for police escape ied planted on the roadPolice escorting a bus along the Mandera-Rhamu-Elwak road have narrowly escaped death from an explosive that was planted on the road by the Al-Qaeda linked militia group Al-Shabab that was targeting the vehicles used by police to man the area.

The police officers were providing an escort to the passengers along the road which has recently been the target by the militants to kidnap and execute.

This is the latest incident in the area in a series that have killed dozens and injured others.

In 2017, an IED planted on the same road hit a Land Cruiser model that was being used as a public service vehicle ripping it apart and leaving at least four people dead and a dozen others injured.

The motor vehicle, Land Cruiser had 15 passengers on board, headed to Mandera along the disused B9 Elwak – Lafey road which runs parallel to the Kenya-Somalia border when it was struck.

In 2014, Mandera Governor Ali Roba survived a similar explosion that was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device after his convoy was hit as he was being driven to the office.
Police at the scene said the IED had been planted by the road and was timed to hit the convoy at Rhamu bus stop.

Roba said he said he survived the blast by a whisker as he challenged the police to get those behind it.

Jihadist attacks in the country have killed numerous people among police with the north particularly affected.
