The case in which a man in Kisii was electrocuted to death in Kisii has once again brought an intense focus on the illegal connections in the Nyanza county that have been responsible for the deaths of more others than probably in any other part of the country.

The incident that happened on Monday morning befell a man in Nyanuguti village who was harvesting nappier grass for his cows when he accidentally stepped on a live wire from an illegal connection.

The man was electrocuted to death on the spot upon which the owner of the illegal connection is said to have rushed to the crime scene and disconnected his wires!

However, police would find pieces of charred wires, leading to the conclusion that the man was electrocuted. What’s more, the suspect fled the area after police were called.

The incident evoked sad memories of another Kisii mason- Mr Ronald Nyagaka who was electrocuted in a house he was renovating on May 29 after he touched a live wire that was dangling from the roof of the house.

Nyagaka fell from the roof, while his fellow workers fled for their lives following the strong impact that the spark caused.

But weeks before that incident, residents of Masaba South were in mourning a man only identified as Mogaka met his untimely death on his way home.

Mogaka is said to have been carrying logs after spending the entire morning cutting his trees in the village when he was struck dead.

Residents narrated to the media that Mogaka was carrying logs on his shoulder when one of the logs accidentally touched an electricity cable, sending shockwaves throughout his body. He died on the spot.

Like fire, electricity is a great servant than a master if the past is anything to go by.

In April, Kenya woke to the sad news in which three people had been electrocuted to death following prolonged heavy rains in Naivasha.

A mother who was breastfeeding her child was electrocuted after the heavy rains resulted in the falling of electricity poles in the area.

An electricity cable would touch the woman’s wooden house, burning everything inside the house including herself and breastfeeding child.

A more bizarre incident happened in Nairobi where a police officer returning from a nightshift duty was electrocuted by his wife after pouring acid on his face.

The incident that happened the same day as the Westagate attack in 2013. The husband would spend two years in hospitals undergoing several surgeries on his face and body. His wife escaped after neighbours raised the alarm.
