How Ruto Has Fueled Immature Politics and Personalized Attacks

Political temperatures are lately gaining momentum over the 2022 succession politics as there is increased political realignment.

Deputy President William Ruto has severally been accused of being the fueling of the immature politics and political leaders which according to sources, has been the reason for the fallout between him and his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Well, we can’t deny this.  Ruto’s Thursday attack at Opposition Leader Raila Odinga is a clear evidence of such allegations.

Speaking during National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Ruto waded into the murky British politics that has forced Prime Minister Theresa May to resign claiming that he would ask for Raila’s CV and present it to the United Kingdom to be considered for the Prime Minister job.

Lord Michael Hastings, a member of UK’s Upper House and one of the speakers at the breakfast, had wondered whether Kenya could spare one of its leaders to take up the British PM job.

“We are just wondering if you have a spare prime minister around,” Dr Hastings said as the guests broke into laughter.

After the request, the DP had an answer for him.

“And because you have been good to us, your request for a Prime Minister, we have retired one in Kenya and since the constitution has abolished the position of Prime Minister in Kenya – so he may not have it any time soon – we will send you his CV,” Ruto had responded to Michael Hastings.

His statement has fueled personal attacks among politicians who are now throwing jabs at each other.

Gatundu MP Moses Kuria who used the opportunity to castigate the DP through his facebook account.

He wrote;

“As a son of a peasant I will not use my humble background as a tool to ascend to power, just the same way I do not expect those from rich backgrounds to use their privileged backgrounds as a tool to ascend or keep power. Hubris is unacceptable from those of us from poor backgrounds as it is from the rich. Humility needs to be our guiding factor for both chicken sellers and sons of Presidents.

Kieleweke leader  Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu who joined Moses Kuria in castigating the DP statement saying that his remarks about his humble background during was meant to humiliate President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Wambugu said Ruto was indirectly using his alleged humble beginning to mock Uhuru who hails from a prominent family of Kenya’s first president.

MP Ngunjiri Wambugu claims Ruto's talk about humble background meant to mock Uhuru

He wrote;

PRIDE COMES BEFORE A FALL, ALWAYS.

Never ever, in their presence and even if true, insinuate that your boss holds the position because of privilege and nothing else. It is an insult that they won’t forget, nor forgive’ – (stolen)

It makes it even worse when you do it before the world, and then go ahead and explain how you on the other hand have come from so far – and are blessed by God – to the point you are now sharing the same table with those who got there through privilege.

If nothing else it shows how much better you think you are, than your Boss. (But isn’t that what the problem really is here?)

As for the rest that was said … let me allow Hon Kuria’s statement below to speak on my behalf.

In response to the claims, the ODM Party told off Ruto  claiming that the prayer day was just for the purpose of creating an opportunity to take down Raila.

“Questions abound about the genuineness of this annual spectacle and the sincerity of our leaders – the smiles and hugs and niceties given that non-other than DP Ruto has dragged us back to the politics of intrigues, personalized attacks and insults sustaining a petty, juvenile and ill-informed political onslaught on Rt Hon Odinga. Even the solemn occasion of prayer for the nation’s many problems for him was but another platform to take another swipe at Hon. Odinga”, a statement read.

That is just but a pinch of what Ruto is doing to the immature political dynasties.

The Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke sections of the Jubilee Party created in favour and against Ruto have already started their 2022 campaigns while Dr. Ruto has not been seen anywhere in the public trying to cool down their early politicking.

At the same time, it seems Ruto’s growing popularity in Uhuru’s backyard is as well raising alarm which has prompted a section of leaders to warn him against stepping foot in the County without his boss.
