Following the arrest of Kiambu MCA Julius Macharia, Kenyans online have questioned the legality of his arrest, singling out ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s swearing in.
The MCA was arrested alongside his driver for illegally painting Deputy President William Ruto with full military regalia on his car.
This, according to the Law shows a disregard for state symbols.
The Constitution’s Section 3(a) of the National Flag, Emblems and Names Act bars members of the public from using the Kenyan flag and other government imagery unless given the go-ahead by the Interior ministry.
This called for the MCA’s arrest together with his driver.
The two were taken to the Juja Police Station.
Kenyans online however have questioned why the MCA was singled out yet similar acts, especially for Opposition Leader Raila Odinga went unpunished.
“Hawkers have been selling calendars in the streets displaying Raila in military attire for a long time . I even bought one of them. Why should it be an offense now that it is DP Ruto?” remarked one kipkoech Rober.

Julius Malema of SA refers himself as a CIC even before the president& the parliamentary proceedings, no one has arrested him nor his followers, for that reason I don't see anything wrong to Mr Macharia displaying Dr. Ruto's portrait in a milliary regalia.
