ODM leader Raila Odinga has described the Late Dorcas Owino Nyongo, the mother to Kisumu governor Anyang Nyong’o as a true matriarch and pillar of the governor’s family.
News broke on Tuesday afternoon that mama Dorcas had passed away at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, where she had been receiving treatment for the past few days.
A message from the governor’s press unit said they keep the governor and his family in prayers:
“We keep HE the Governor and the entire family at this very dark time in their lives. May the Lord rest her soul in eternal peace,”
Raila described Mama Dorcas as a woman who ‘never serving and guiding the family and the community she was part of despite her advancing years.’

“Our family will be forever grateful for the friendship we formed that has stood the test of time. Our hearts and prayers are with the entire Nyongo clan at this moment of grief. May God grant the family the fortitude and faith to cope with the loss.” Reads a message on the AU envoy’s official Twitter Handle.
The ODM Party, also tweeted a message of condolence saying they stand with the governor during this trying moment.

The demise of mama Dorcas comes at a time when the Nyong’o family is in a heated court dispute over the sharing of their father’s multimillion estate.

Governor Nyong’o and his sister Dr Risper Nyagoy could be facing a possible jail term after disobeying court orders directing them to include their nephews in the inheritance list for the property left behind by their father, Hesbone Shimei Nyong’o.
