As speculations continue to mount on which team will Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt sign for, another truth has just emerged that will put off every speculation.
Did you think that Barcelona is a prestigious team? Or Manchester United is a glorious club?
Well, that is actually your thought! People are different and I swear you will not believe what De Ligt said.
How did we get to this point?
Ajax has been one of the most spectacular clubs this season 2018-19. Many fell in love with the Dutch team after they showed a superb performance in both their domestic league and the Champions League.
They managed to clinch their domestic title for the 34th time and was narrowly bundled out of the Champions League in the semi-final by Tottenham.
Perhaps what astonished fans was how their squad is composed of young stars being steered by an able leader Matthijs de Ligt.
Since his great show, many clubs have been linked with him. The most notable are Manchester United and Barcelona.
However, Barcelona have been the favourites to secure his signature and even the Dutchman declared his interest to play for the Spanish giants.
United have also made a lot of attempts as they are backed by De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola, who rejected Barcelona’s 65 million pounds and threatened to give the player to a team that will give a better offer.
Earlier on, the Spanish giants informed Mino Raiola that they will maintain the offer made a few weeks ago and there will be no last minute improvement despite heavy pressure.
They also told De Ligt that they’ve made their offer and it is upon him to decide. They even advised the defender to make an economic sacrifice to get a ‘privilege’ to play at Nou Camp.
However, De Ligt has put it clear and has fired back with an earth-shattering response.
During an interview with one publication, when asked about his dream club, De Ligt mentioned that his dream club has been Ajax and that had been fulfilled.
He said; “I am not so worried that so many have been written. It is not one club that is interested, no. Whether I have a dream club? No, I don’t really have a dream club outside of Ajax. It was always my dream to play at Ajax. I succeeded and I’m happy about that.”
