Survival on the line as Posta Rangers face off with Gor Mahia in Machakos

Already confirmed as the Kenya Premier League Champions for the third consecutive season, Gor Mahia’s match with Posta Rangers means more to John Kamau’s side than Hassan Oktay’s all-conquering K’Ogallo. Posta Rangers are still not out of relegation trouble and need a point to eliminate the possibility of automatic demotion from the Kenyan top flight.

The Champions were not at their best in their 1-1 draw with Vihiga in midweek, perhaps due to the job being already down but Hassan Oktay has promised concentration against Rangers. Rangers have two victories from the last 8 matches that they have played in and are famed for their resolute defense.

Gor Mahia’s celebratory mood is a factor John Kamau’s men can take advantage as Vihiga did in midweek. Jacques Tiyisenge and Nicholas Kipkirui are expected to be named on the bench after featuring from the start in the Mashemeji derby on Sunday and 3 days later against Vihiga while Dennis Oliech remains out with an injury.

Having lost on Wednesday against Western Stima and with a match against Tusker Fc next after the Gor Mahia clash, this match presents Posta Rangers with the perfect opportunity to end their relegation fears once and for all. Win and they retain their status as participants in Kenya’s top flight football league next season, lose and it will be hoping for the best on the last day of the League next Wednesday.

Rangers have their own destiny in their own hands, how good will they make use of that opportunity? We will have all the action as it happens from  Machakos.
