Luos annoyed by Kisumu’s first ever traffic lights

The Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) on Wedneday officially rolled out its initiative in installing traffic lights along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway.

The authority, in a bid to upgrade roads and increase traffic flow with the onset of devolution, will be installing the lights three key junctions along the same road.

Kenha director general Peter Mundinia said the construction of the four-lane highway linking Nairobi-Kisumu road and the Kakamega route has informed the need for traffic lights to boost pedestrian safety and traffic flow.

“We know drivers have already been trained in approved training schools and are conversant with traffic rules but since this is the first time we are putting up these signal lights, it is vital to sensitise them afresh,” he said.

This has however not slipped the ever-vigilant Kenyans on Twitter, someof whom have criticised the initiative as the government’s “zombification” of Kenyans, especially of Luos.

The Pandora’s box was opened by controversial Lawyer Miguna Miguna, who pointed out that traffic lights have been in existence since their invention in the 70’s
