The millenials probably won’t understand this with this new digital era where its so easy to watch a movie or series. There’s even the term Netflix and chill for a reason.
Back in the day the we had movie shops where we get all the Kevos and Brayos of this world. Not to mention this was the ‘base’ or hangout joint of almost everyone in the hood…. Like a bar… but without the alcohol… though some had alcohol…anyway..
Whether it’s a movie or a TV series, we always make sure we watch something when we are bored at home or chilling with friends. Due to the 254s love for cinematic works, there were numerous movie shops in residential estates or urban centers, which have gone down in numbers due to the increased technlogical development. If you have your own internet at home, you don’t have to rely on movie shops to get the latest series but a good number of Kenyans still have to visit the movie guy.
Here are things only Kenyans who go to the movie shop can understand.
1. When the movie guy convinces you that a certain series is dope then you buy it and go home excited only to discover it’s horrible.
2. Or maybe you saw a cool poster at the movie shop and thought the movie was awesome, so you bought it but it bored the hell out of you.
3. When you want a movie but there is no copy ready so you have to wait forever for your CD to finish burning.
4. Sometimes the place is too crowded too so you keep debating whether to go back home and remain bored or wait forever.
5. There are those moments you rush home excited only to discover that the CD you were given isn’t showing anything.
6. Or it has multiple scratches.
7. Even worse, it might be lacking some episodes.
8. Then there are times you discover a new TV series and you rush to the movie guy to get it only for him to tell you he doesn’t have it.
9. When the movie guy or girl is hot so you just buy many CDs to impress them.
10. You have friends who never buy movies……they just borrow yours.
11. And they never return them.
