It’s now or never in the race to avoid the calamity that is relegation from the Kenyan Premier League. With just two matchdays left in the season, Mount Kenya United have already been shown the door while 4 of the teams directly above them could follow them into the National Super League next season.

Vihiga United, fresh from collecting a valuable point against the Champions is 17th on the log with 26 points. Their next two matches are against Western Stima and Kariobangi Sharks. The task for them is harder than the rest since wins in both matches will not automatically guarantee survival. They have left themselves with a bit too much to do, it’s basically winning and hope the others drop points but what is life without hope?

Zoo Kericho is on 29 points on the log and only need a win to avoid automatic relegation but could end up playing in the playoff should things not go their way in the other matches. 16th position(Zoo’s on the log) is only good enough for a two-legged playoff against the 3rd best team in the National Super League. Next up for them is a tricky fixture against Allan Wanga’s Kakamega Homeboyz before ending the season away to a resurgent KCB.

Posta Rangers face Gor Mahia next and need a point from the match to ensure that automatic relegation will not befall them this season. However, the dreaded playoff match is very much on the cards for them even if they get their point against the Champions. They are probably the team with the toughest end to the season with their final match being away to Tusker FC. Rangers can, however, take advantage of Gor Mahia’s celebratory mood and maybe nick a win, Vihiga United gave it a try in midweek and it almost worked for them.

Chemelil’s Sugar is in a woeful run. They have zero wins in their last 7 matches and despite avoiding defeats in their last 2, they need better failure to which the National Super League will be their next step. Mathare United and Sony Sugar are their next two opponents but luckily for Chemelil, all they need to do is match or better Zoo Kericho’s result this weekend. Things could, however, go very wrong for Francis Baraza’s side, Sony Sugar is in a good run of form while Mathare United do not easily lose points. Should Zoo Kericho win their games, Chemelil could end up being relegated automatically!
